Short answer

Mangools Basic costs $61 USD a month, or $37.70 USD billed annually, for keyword, SERP, rank and link tools (vendor page, Oct 19, 2026). Ahrefs Lite costs $129 USD a month for 750 tracked keywords, 100,000 crawl credits and Ahrefs' own link index, with 1,000 credits per user. Pick Mangools for budget research; Ahrefs when link and content research is the core job.

How we chose what to compare

Both tools are popular with freelance SEOs, but they sit at very different prices. Mangools bundles five simple tools. Ahrefs is a full research suite built on its own crawler. We compared them on the jobs freelancers and small agencies bill for: keyword research, backlink research, rank tracking, site audits and reports.

We read the Mangools plans and pricing page and the Ahrefs pricing page, including its plan comparison table and FAQ, on Oct 19, 2026, in a headless browser. The Ahrefs page showed monthly prices; it says annual billing saves up to 17% but did not list annual amounts in what we could read. We have not tested these tools hands-on yet and give no ratings or scores.

Feature areas

Keyword research

KWFinder limits daily lookups by plan (100, 500 or 1,200 per 24 hours) and shows search volumes, difficulty and SERP data together. Ahrefs Keywords Explorer limits Lite to 1,000 credits per user a month, while Standard and higher list unlimited credits. Standard also adds AI suggestions, keyword clusters, search intents and translations. For agency-scale research, see keyword research for agencies.

Backlink research

Mangools LinkMiner uses Majestic data, with 100,000 rows a month on Basic and 1.2 million on Agency. Ahrefs Site Explorer uses Ahrefs' own index; it describes its crawler as the world's second-most active. Ahrefs caps rows per report (2,500 on Lite, 30,000 on Standard) and exports (500,000 rows a month on Lite). Standard adds broken backlinks, outgoing links and linking authors.

Rank tracking

Mangools Basic and Premium update weekly, and Agency updates daily. Ahrefs lists weekly updates for Rank Tracker on every plan, with 750 keywords on Lite and 2,000 on Standard. If clients expect daily movement, Mangools Agency or the tools in rank tracking for small agencies fit better.

Audits and reporting

Ahrefs Site Audit uses crawl credits: 100,000 a month on Lite with up to 25,000 pages per project. Ahrefs Report Builder includes 5 reports on Lite and Standard, with a $99 USD/month add-on for 50 reports and scheduling. Mangools lists shareable SERPWatcher reports and SiteProfiler domain checks, but no site audit.

Workflow: a freelancer link-building month in each tool

  1. Find keywords to target: KWFinder lookups, or Keywords Explorer within your credits.
  2. Study who ranks: SERPChecker in Mangools, or SERP history in Ahrefs.
  3. Find link prospects: LinkMiner on competitor URLs, or Site Explorer and, on Standard, Content Explorer.
  4. Audit the client site (Ahrefs only): a Site Audit crawl within your credits.
  5. Report: a SERPWatcher share link, or an Ahrefs Report Builder report.

If step 3 is most of your billable work, Ahrefs' own index and higher row limits may justify the price. If steps 1 and 2 are most of it, Mangools covers them for much less.

Who each vendor says its plans are for

Mangools describes Basic as "for solopreneurs, freelance SEOs and marketers" and Agency as "for professional SEOs and marketing agencies". Ahrefs describes Lite as "essential data for small businesses and personal projects", Standard as "perfect for freelance SEOs and marketing consultants" and Advanced as for "lean in-house marketing teams".

Free and low-cost entry points

Mangools gives free KWFinder lookups with a free account. Ahrefs offers Ahrefs Free for website owners, with limited Site Explorer and Site Audit access, and a Starter plan at $29 USD/month for basic keyword and competitor research. Ahrefs' FAQ says it never runs discounts.

Pros and cons (from vendor pages)

Mangools pros: much lower entry price; large annual discount; daily tracking on Agency; 48-hour refund.

Mangools cons: no site audit listed; weekly tracking below Agency; daily lookup caps; backlink data comes from Majestic rather than its own crawler.

Ahrefs pros: own link index; site audit included; Content Explorer and Batch Analysis on Standard; Ahrefs Free and Starter entry options.

Ahrefs cons: $129 USD/month entry for the full suite; weekly rank updates on every plan; 1,000 credits per user on Lite; refunds generally not issued.
